Fall Skin Tips

Fall Skin Tips

As the last days of summer wind down and the transition to fall season begins, you can expect your skin to change drastically. Dryer, cooler air means your skincare regimen needs to be updated in order to keep your skin healthy and moisturized. However, just because the summer season is over doesn’t mean you have to lose the seasonal glow. Following are some fall skin tips that will help keep your skin vibrant and healthy during the colder months.

Switch to a Thicker Moisturizer
A lightweight moisturizer is typically enough for most types of skin throughout the summer season. But when fall arrives and temperatures begin to drop, you should consider using something a little heavier so that you can effectively prevent moisture loss. If you use gel moisturizer, then it would be a good idea to switch to a lotion. If you are already using lotion, then consider switching to a more hydrating lotion. Finally, if you are currently using a cream, then it is recommended that you switch to something with thicker ingredients and consistency, e.g. lipid- or ceramides-rich oils. Ingredients with natural sources of ceramides, e.g. jojoba oil are a recommended choice.

Use a Lip Moisturizer and Add Eye Creams
Eye cream is a must in the fall season. So, if you are not using one already, then it is highly recommended that you start now. The delicate thick skin around your eyes is usually the first area that begins to show crinkles and fine lines. Eye creams are made to protect this sensitive area of your face. The second important area are your lips. If you are not using it already, then you should invest in a lip moisturizer or lip balm in order to fight the effects of blustery, cold weather to prevent chapping. A simple Vaseline petroleum jelly is a great choice.

Continue Using Sunscreen
Just because the temperatures are falling doesn’t mean you should stop using sunscreen. The warm sun rays surely feel pleasant during fall, but the UV rays are still very harmful for your skin. So, it is advised that you continue using your sunscreen. Conventional sunscreens are not recommended as they only protect your skin on a surface level. For maximum protection, it is recommended that you find a sunscreen that is water resistant, provides UVB and UVA protection, and has at least 30 SPF.

Add Vitamin C
Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that helps protect your skin from environmental damage. During the fall season, you should consider adding vitamin C-infused skin products to your skincare regimen. This will help repair and soothe sun-damaged summer skin. Vitamin C is also very beneficial for improving skin tone, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and stimulating collagen production. It can also even skin pigmentation, e.g. uneven skin tone, brown spots, etc. from summertime sun exposure.

Skin care is important not because it is essential for your appearance but also because it performs a lot of important tasks of your body. So, with the change in season, you should take steps to revamp your skin care regimen. The above-listed fall skin tips will make the transition to colder months easier while also ensuring that you retain your summer glow.
